According to data, about 45% of the current global carbon dioxide emissions are caused by electricity production. Developing low-carbon electricity is the only way for the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of Guangxi's power industry.

In recent years, the government of the autonomous region has implemented the shutdown plan for small thermal power plants, implemented the "big replacing small" electricity replacement, and optimized the operation mode of units. Guangxi Power Grid has achieved real-time monitoring of desulfurization in all 10 thermal power plants in the region. Under the premise of ensuring grid safety and prioritizing water and electricity utilization, efficient and low consumption large units are arranged to replace low efficiency and high consumption small units for power generation, minimizing coal consumption in thermal power plants and achieving energy conservation and emission reduction.

As of the end of 2009, 639500 kilowatt small thermal power units in Guangxi had been shut down one year in advance, and the standard coal consumption rate for thermal power supply had also decreased from 360 grams per kilowatt hour in 2007 to 336 grams per kilowatt hour. In 2009, a total of 120000 tons of standard coal were saved.

In order to fully utilize Guangxi's hydropower resources, Guangxi Power Grid Company actively promotes energy-saving power generation scheduling, fully utilizes the peak shaving effect of large hydropower stations such as Longtan and Tianshengqiao, and increases the output of cascade hydropower stations. On this basis, the Guangxi Power Grid Water Dispatch Automation System, Meteorological Satellite Cloud Image Automatic Reception and Processing System, and Meteorological Information Service System have also been established to monitor the water level changes in the hydropower basin 24 hours a day. When it is predicted that a certain basin will experience concentrated water inflow, priority will be given to arranging hydropower units within the basin for power generation, vacating the storage capacity to accept incoming water, and changing passive power generation to active regulation. By implementing energy-saving power generation scheduling, Guangxi's hydropower grid generated 27.22 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2009, fully consuming hydropower electricity and achieving "zero" water waste for three consecutive years.

In order to create a "green power grid", Guangxi Power Grid Company prioritizes the use of energy-saving equipment. The 220 kV Keyuan substation, which has just been put into operation, is currently one of the largest and most technologically advanced substations in Guangxi's power grid. The substation adopts high-tech equipment such as GIS, which unifies the facilities such as switches, disconnectors, and lightning arresters that previously needed to be built separately into a group, greatly improving land use efficiency, and occupying only 1/3 of the area of a regular substation.

Guangxi Power Grid Company vigorously promotes the application of large capacity and low loss products through the renovation and renovation of old equipment, and carries out overall construction based on resource conservation, environmental friendliness, and industrial standards to improve the power supply capacity of the power grid, reduce transmission losses, reduce the ground area occupied by the power grid, and protect environmental resources. At the same time, actively promote the application of new technologies and energy-saving and environmental protection equipment, and promote energy conservation and consumption reduction. The utilization rate of energy-saving power fittings in Guangxi Power Grid has reached 100%, and 100% of the newly built 220 kV lines are designed with high towers crossing forest areas. New technologies such as airship wiring have also been widely applied, greatly reducing the amount of deforestation and achieving harmonious unity between power grid construction and the natural ecological environment.

Huang Jinping, General Manager of Guangxi Power Grid Company, stated that in the future, research and application efforts will be further increased in the development, utilization, access, and storage of new and renewable energy. Priority will be given to arranging green energy grid connected power generation, further leveraging the guiding role of power grid planning in power construction, and continuously increasing the proportion of new and renewable energy such as hydropower, wind energy, solar energy, biomass energy, and nuclear energy in the "procurement" of the power grid, By promoting the development of green energy, we can better implement energy conservation and emission reduction.
